Eight on the trot for Arklow Town

Wednesday March 03 2010

ARKLOW TOWN made it an incredible eight wins from eight in the U-17 League at the weekend when they crushed first placed Cabinteely by five goals to nil.

Town made light work of Cabinteely at Bridgewater Centre Park on Saturday afternoon, despite the Dublin side being the league leaders.

Mark Hardy was the hosts' top marksman, with the striker netting a hat-trick. Darragh O'Leary and Dean McCormack also registered singles for the Town.

This win now sees the Arklow side move onto 24 points for the season, 10 behind their opponents on Saturday but with six games in hand.

While Arklow Town 's win may have been impressive, they couldn't match Glencormac United's eight goal haul against nine-man Ardmore Rovers.

Rovers travelled to Ryder's Field and opted to fulfil the fixture despite their two man disadvantage and the Bray side suffered the consequences.

Dean O'Neill, Alan Pyke and Dan Hayes all bagged braces for the hosts, while Thomas Smith and Eoin Boyle (a penalty) also chipped in with strikes.

And finally, Wicklow Rovers and Kill Celtic, two sides near the bottom of the table, met at Kill Celtic's Dublin home and fought out a 1-1 draw.

Frankie Marron was on target for the visitors.
