Fassaroe impress in win over leaders
ALL EYES in Division 2 were on the meeting of Fassaroe YC and Avonmore FC at the Fassaroe Community Centre on Wednesday.
The two sides are two of the favourites for the Division 2 crown and it is the visitors who are currently top of the table but they shall be casting a few nervous glances over their shoulder at Fassaroe now after the Bray side beat them 4-1 to move within four points of the leaders, with three games in hand.
Oliver Byrne netted Avonmore's solitary strike.
Also breathing down the neck of Avonmore is Arklow United. The Ferndale Park side made it five wins from six games with their 42 home win over joint bottom side Redbank United. Ger Earls netted a hat-trick for the hosts in this one, with Anthony Kavanagh also on target. The Arklow side is now a mere four points off the top just like Fassaroe, but they have an extra game in hand to play.
Redbank United's ninth league defeat leaves them rooted to the bottom of the table and they are joined there by St. Kevin's, who were beaten 7-2 by Ballywaltrim FC at the Ballywaltrim RecreationalPark on Sunday.
Both Barry Hanna and Stephen Murphy registered doubles for the Bray side. Glen Joyce and Darren Devlin were also on the scoresheet, with an own goal making up Ballywaltrim's final effort.
This leaves Tommy Murphy's side three points off the top of the table in what is undoubtedly the tightest division in the Wicklow League.
