Rathnew back at top
Wednesday February 24 2010
RATHNEW AFC stormed back to the top of the table with a 7-0 demolition of Glencormac United on Sunday.
The Glens started the game with only ten men and an injury to a player soon left them with just nine players on the pitch and a ruthless Rathnew side took full advantage of their extra players, smashing seven past the Kilmac side.
Rathnew's top scorer Shane Doyle made his return from injury in this one and marked it with a hat-trick.
Philip Murphy and Ross O'Brien both recorded doubles for the Shamrock Park outfit while Conor McGowan also notched. Murphy's first strike is sure to be a contender for goal of the season however.
After a swift passing move involving five players, Doyle backheeled it to Murphy and he kept his cool to curl it beyond the Glens goalkeeper from all of 25 yards.
Arklow Town also picked up a big win over the weekend when they fired four goals past Granada A to keep their 100 per cent record intact.
Adam Moorehouse, Mati Blanchina, Darragh O'Leary and Alan Sunderland all netted for Town in their 4-1 win to keep the Bridgewater Centre Park side within 12 points of Rathnew, although the Black and Whites do have five matches in hand.
