Richmond continue to climb up the table

Wednesday February 24 2010

A FEW weeks ago Richmond Rovers would have been glancing nervously over their shoulders at the Premier Division's bottom two.

But now the Bray side are within touching distance of a Charlie Bishop Cup place. They have been on fire in recent weeks and kept up their scintillating form with a midweek league win over local rivals Wolfe Tone Celtic. Chris Cox gave Rovers the lead at the Ballywaltrim Community Centre on Wednesday evening before Celtic pegged the hosts back.

But Cox netted his and his side's second to secure the three points and see them move up to seventh in the table.

There was one other midweek Premier Division fixture and that was the meeting of Rathnew AFC and Wicklow Town at Shamrock Park which finished 1-1.

This draw means the Villagers remain in tenth place in the Wicklow League's top flight, and it doesn't do much for Town either who remain in sixth. David Smullen got the visitors effort.
