Seaview Wanderers and Celtic Stars pick up the points

WITH AVONMORE FC idle at the weekend, Seaview Wanderers and Celtic Stars both had the chance to overtake the league leaders should they have won their fixtures on Sunday and neither disappointed.
Wanderers travelled to Greystones to take on Eastcoast Albion and picked up the three points courtesy of a 2-0 win. Both defences stood tall until the 72nd minute when Wanderers finally managed to break down Albion 's resistance. Mark O'Regan was the man who did so, when he blasted home a free kick from the edge of the area after Mark Wolohan had been fouled.
Wolohan then gave his side some breathing space nine minutes from time when he turned home James Byrne's cross. Albion may well feel unlucky not to have gained any points from this one though, as they hit the woodwork twice.
Wanderers don't have much breathing space in first place though as they are currently level on points with Celtic Stars.
Stars struggled to a 1-0 win over bottom side Redbank United but now join Seaview on 29 points, although they have played two extra games than the Arklow side.
Redbank's local rivals Roundwood FC look set for another season in Division 2 as their promotion hopes are rapidly diminishing after losing 2-1 to Newtown United B.
Terry Murphy and Conor Eccleston both scored for the Magpies as they moved onto 17 points for the season.
Roundwood are now seven points off the top two, but have played more games than three of the four sides above them.
One side whose promotion hopes are still intact are that of Arklow United's, with the Ferndale Park side continuing to sneak up the table.
They comprehensively beat Bray side Ballywaltrim FC 4-0 to climb to seventh place, eight points off second place but more importantly with games in hand over five of the six clubs above them.
