Shillelagh end lenghty drought with good win over BBK United
SHILLELAGH UNITED ended an 11 week drought at the weekend as they picked up a win over BBK United on Sunday.
Shillelagh's only other victory of the campaign thus far happened on October 2nd when they earned a 2-1 victory over BBK United. And the Brittas Park side were once again the Ballard side's unfortunate victims this time as they fell to a 0-3 defeat.
Paddy Byrne struck twice with Brendan Behan also on target for the visitors as they climbed to ninth place, overtaking Bray side Richmond Rovers in the process.
Shillelagh's success spells bad news for bottom side Arklow Celtic. The Celtic Park men, yet to taste victory this season, suffered their ninth defeat of the campaign this week as they fell foul to a rampant Wicklow Rovers at the Whitegates.
Aidan Small landed a hat-trick for the hosts as they moved to within touching distance of second-placed Arklow Town. Donal Fitzgerald also bagged a brace for Rovers, with Kevin Coady also on the mark for Rovers as they ran out 6-2 winners.
Michael Doyle and Danny Cowan netted the Arklow side's efforts.
League leaders Newtown United were also in action. They travelled to Finlay Park to take on old foes Wicklow Town B. And last season's top two played out a 1-1 draw at the Wicklow venue.
David O'connor was on target for the hosts, with youngster Shane Mooney stealing a point for his side with a last minute leveller.
