Wicklow Rovers 'B' prove too good for Enniskerry United

Wednesday March 03 2010

Enniskerry 1, Wicklow Rovers B 5

WICKLOW ROVERS travelled to Enniskerry last Sunday to take on the hosts and the two teams provided some really entertaining, with Rovers winning 5-1.

The visitors got off to a flying start when after five minutes Kieran Bloomfield knocked the ball back to Luke Finlayson on the edge of the area and he hit an unstoppable shot to put Wicklow one up.

Wicklow piled forward looking for their second and went close but were denied when the home keeper pulled off a great save to thwart Bloomfield.

The pressure finally told at the midway point of the half when Timmy Doherty put Alan Power down the right and he pulled it back to James Nolan who hit it first time. The keeper saved his initial effort but Nolan was on hand to fire the rebound to the roof of the net. Three minutes later things got even better for the away side when a Luke Finlayson through ball was finished off by Kieran Bloomfield to make it 3-0.

Just before the break Rovers' Liam Kavanagh forced the home keeper into a good save and then after the break Enniskerry started much better and forced three corners in quick succession but failed to break down the strong defence of Peter Thornton, Daragh Hosey, Mark Egan and Craig Waldron.

Kieran Bloomfield went close twice in the space of two minutes to extending his side's lead further, first shooting narrowly wide and then being denied by the home keeper.

Rovers again went close to grabbing a fourth with efforts from Alan Power and the hard working Rory O'Kelly.

There were 20 gone when Darragh O'Connor passed to James Nolan who laid it off to Kieran Bloomfield to score for the fourth.

Soon after it was 5-0 when a move involving Alan Power, Kieran Bloomfield and Luke Finlayson was finished off by James Nolan.

With five minutes remaining Brendan Hawes pulled off a good save for Rovers but in the last minute James Nolan was denied his hatrick when he struck the post.

The home side broke upfield and scored a consolation goal in the dying seconds through Stewart Hallam.
